Recipes for mixing are only formulaic and tend to preclude careful observation of the visual environment. So, choose a small set of paints and explore every combination of them. Then paint whatever you see!

@6evil6dead6 Black is not on my palette and I rarely, if ever, use any black. Creating blacks from a variety of darks adds more life to the color and can more closely represents nuance of shadow.

Good JOB... a real portrait background come on as after or some spots come on before.... its totally a trick of an eye ... when the face is appealing and also real looking ! background would not matter come on as close to an outline,,, it will actually make the painting look 3D even more..
